The Mediterranean lifestyle as a key to longer life

The Mediterranean lifestyle is not just about healthy eating.

It also includes time for socializing, relaxation, and physical activity.

The Mediterranean lifestyle as a key to longer life

All these factors together have a significantly positive impact on human health. According to experts, they significantly reduce the risk of premature death and offer the key to longevity.

It is no secret that the Mediterranean diet is beneficial for human health. Regular socialization, relaxation, and exercise also reduce the risk of death from heart attacks or strokes.

The Mediterranean lifestyle reduces the likelihood of premature death by 29 percent

These claims are supported by a study from the UK Biobank, which examined data from 110,799 adult participants included in the study. The participants were aged 45 to 70 and came from England, Wales, and Scotland. Scientists closely examined their dietary habits, focusing mainly on healthy foods. They also monitored salt and sugar intake. An important indicator of the study was also regular sleep, exercise, and time spent with friends.

The higher the score in each category, the more people adhered to the Mediterranean lifestyle.

As reported by the Independent, all participants were followed for nine years. Out of the total number of participants, 4,247 people died, with 2,401 from cancer and 731 from cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. Scientists found that people following the mentioned lifestyle had a 29 percent lower likelihood of death compared to peers who did not follow it.

The results of the British study also revealed another interesting fact. The Mediterranean lifestyle is not tied only to the geographical location of the Mediterranean Sea but is transferable. People who lived according to its principles for almost a decade simply lived longer and happier lives even in the rainy United Kingdom.
