How to decorate a Mediterranean-style interior

Mediterranean style is not just about design, but especially about lifestyle.

Thanks to the combination of natural light, natural materials and a relaxed atmosphere, it creates a home where you can feel like you are on vacation every day.

How to decorate a Mediterranean-style interior

Its main advantage is its naturalness and timelessness - it easily adapts to different types of housing, whether you live in the city, in the countryside or by the sea. If you are looking for a peaceful environment full of sunny colors and Mediterranean comfort, this style is the perfect choice for you.

The Mediterranean style is inspired by the architecture and atmosphere of rural and seaside houses in countries such as Greece, Italy, Spain and the south of France. This style is characterized by open, spacious rooms, large windows letting in plenty of daylight, and a seamless connection between the interior and the exterior. The interior is dominated by natural materials such as wood, stone, terracotta or ceramics. A sense of freedom, simplicity and coziness are important. Mediterranean design is known for its practicality, timeless looks, and durability.

The New Mediterranean style is now very popular across Europe

The New Mediterranean style in interior design combines traditional Mediterranean elements with modern architecture and digital technologies of an automated home. In the interior, this style is characterized by bright colors, natural materials, rustic details and a pleasant atmosphere. Arabic patterns, soft textures, and rich accessories are often used. The dominant color of this style is snow-white, which optically enlarges and brightens the rooms.

It is complemented by tones that are reminiscent of the surrounding landscape – various shades of blue evoking the sea, while yellow and orange evoke the atmosphere of sun and sand. To a lesser extent, olive green or lavender are used, which add freshness to the interior. Terracotta red tones are also typical for this style. Wall surfaces tend to be matte and wallpaper with a plaster, marble or brick effect is also suitable. This style is associated with comfort, relaxation and a holiday atmosphere.

How to furnish individual rooms

Living room

The space feels open and light thanks to the simple wooden furnishings, rattan armchairs and ceramic details. Comfort will be emphasized by pillows in shades of blue and beige, which will create an atmosphere of harmony with nature. Tiles or carpet with a geometric motif are suitable for the floor.

Bedroom

White and blue colors predominate in this room. Linen curtains, wooden headboards, ceramic lamps and natural decorations create a harmonious and relaxing environment. You can add a massive bench at the foot of the bed or an antique bedside table.

Kitchen

It is characterized by open shelves, ceramic tiles, wooden work surfaces and exposed containers with herbs. Hand-painted tiles and copper accessories are a distinctive element. On the wall there can be a wooden rack with dishes and baskets with fresh vegetables. The overall impression is completed by cotton kitchen textiles.

Bathroom

Mosaics, earthenware sinks, wicker baskets and mirrors with carved frames stand out in the bathroom. Shades of sand and blue transform the space into a relaxing oasis. Candles, sachets of dried lavender or wooden shelves for bathroom utensils are a great addition.

Mediterranean-style furniture

Furniture typical of the Mediterranean style is massive, stable and often decorated with carved details or oriental motifs. Natural wood is most often used, but exotic materials such as teak, ebony or rattan are no exception. The kitchen is dominated by a large wooden countertop, a work surface made of stone or marble and open shelves for displaying dishes. In the living room and bedroom you will find wooden tables, chairs, benches or wardrobes. The natural look is underlined by rattan and wicker accessories, ceramics, fabrics made of thicker materials and subtropical plants in pots. The modern Mediterranean interior emphasizes simplicity, practicality and connection with nature.
